I started this book in late April and it’s provided a fascinating ride through the origins or early intelligence by broadening the definition beyond human capabilities. By emphasizing early evolutionary innovations, such as instinctive steering towards and away from stimuli as is seen in planaria worms, Bennett makes demonstrates how simple behaviours in response to internal states and the external environment were evolutionary precursors for complex intelligence and consciousness.
